Why YOU Should Be a Purpose-Driven Entrepreneur
businesses that align themselves with a purpose grow on average 300% faster than their competition
What if you could find the freedom and fulfillment that you want from this life AND make a positive difference in the world at the same time?
Sounds pretty good, right?
For the first time, at least in my lifetime, starting your own business and pursuing an entrepreneurial way of life is actually a trendy thing to do. When I started my first personal training business almost a decade ago, it was definitely not that way!
I believe that the shift towards taking control of your income and your way of life is a very positive one. But, I think that the motivations we ascribe to entrepreneurship tend to be slightly off the mark.
What do I mean by that?
I mean that when most of us decide to start a business, we are looking at it with dollar signs in our eyes. We focus purely on the potential for exponential income.
-Exponential income is simply the ability to increase your income at a significantly higher rate than the traditional promotion structure of the corporate world.-
Am I saying that exponential income is a bad thing?
Absolutely not. The potential for exponential income is one of the best parts of entrepreneurship!
However, I have spoken with tons of entrepreneurs over the last few years, and the ones that seem to be the least satisfied with their choice - even if they are making truckloads of money - are the ones that started their business and pursuit of that exponential income, and nothing more. The common thread that I find when having these conversations is that all of them started their business solely (keyword: solely) focused on financial freedom.
I believe that they missed a critical piece of the puzzle, which would’ve given them not only more fulfillment in their business, but also given them a distinct advantage over their competition.
What is this missing piece of the puzzle?
Purpose. Specifically, a purpose that comes from a heart of service for the prospective customer.
If we align our businesses with a purpose that is truly meant to help solve the problems of our customers, and we approach each interaction with a focus on service, and not simply profit, we add in a key point of leverage.
Did you know that according to Deloitte Consulting (one of the world's most successful consulting firms), businesses that align themselves with an intrinsic purpose grow on average 300% faster than their competition?
Also, according to Forbes, these companies also attract a higher quality of talent and retain them for longer periods of time than their purely profit-motivated counterparts.
So, if we can start or build a business around a purpose, with a heart of service, that will make a positive difference in the world and it will give us a significant advantage over our competition, why wouldn’t we give it a shot?
This may actually be - and I’m not being hyperbolic here - the greatest opportunity in human history.
How many times before have we had access to almost every human being in the world, access to affordable resources and systems, and the ability to gain an advantage by pursuing a purpose that is both fulfilling to us and of great help to our customers?
I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty exciting to me.
I believe that purpose-driven entrepreneurship is the peak of entrepreneurship (hence the name of this blog), and that we have been presented with a golden opportunity.
I look forward to seeing what you create.
Have a Wonderful Day,
-Caleb
